One dollar doesn’t buy much in California these days, but for one casino player, it was enough to produce a $583,824 payday.
A Lodi man identified as Jairo V. hit the massive progressive jackpot while visiting Sky River Casino in Elk Grove on Wednesday, Aug. 26. According to casino officials, Jairo was playing the pirate-themed Dollar Storm Mega Grand Link Buccaneer slot when his $1 wager triggered the progressive prize.
The win came on a 2-cent denomination machine, leaving the player questioning whether what he saw on the screen was real. Sky River later announced the jackpot as it entered its fifth year of operation.
Jairo reportedly has some practical plans for the money. Casino officials said he intends to pay off his vehicles and is considering putting some of the winnings toward a home or starting a small business.
It’s also far from the first substantial jackpot Sky River has paid in 2026.
In April, a San Jose woman won more than $1.09 million after making a $3 wager on a Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Big Money slot. That was reported as the largest slot jackpot awarded at Sky River since the property opened.
The casino has continued announcing six-figure wins throughout the year, including a $341,389 progressive jackpot in July and more than $4.6 million in table-game jackpots through early July.
