Could California Be The Next State To Offer Online Gambling?

ca-flagCurrently, only seven US states offer domestically-regulated online casinos, but industry insiders believe California, New York, and Maryland should be on deck.

After Rhode Island launched its state-regulated online casino sites last month, many industry professionals are looking to predict what states could be next. At a recent summit, speakers noted that New York and Maryland are likely next to launch online gambling services. However, some people stated that California is simply too big a market not to offer state-regulated online casinos.

Shawn Fluharty, a West Virginia delegate and chairman of a national group of legislatures from gambling states, also stated that New York and Maryland were likely to offer online gambling services in the upcoming years.

Brandt Iden, vice president of government affairs for Fanatics Betting and Gaming, said that passing online casino legislation is difficult for many states. The problem is that some lawmakers don’t fully understand the industry. He went on to say that some people think i-gaming is about video games.

Fluharty went on to say that some lawmakers think that online casino gambling will gut revenue from already existing brick-and-mortar casinos. However, studies show that online gambling can complement domestic casinos by providing additional income.
